Very Important... Homeland Security Issues a New Form I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification
Effective April 3, 2009, employers are required to use
the revised version of the employment eligibility form
known as the Form I-9. The purpose of this form is to
verify a new hire's identity and authorization to work in
the United States. The revised form includes an
updated list of documents accepted for verification of
employment eligibility. To avoid discrimination,
employers cannot specify which document(s) they will
accept from an employee.
The attached I-9 has been protected by USCIS, and we
are unable to insert it into our new hire applications.
When you have a new employee complete the
necessary application, you must also print out a Form
I-9 and manually insert it into the application (after the W-4).
Please make sure to discard any prior versions of
the application from your paper or computer files.
Please read the updated instructions carefully so you
have a complete understanding of the employee
and employer responsibilities when completing the
Form I-9. Read More
