Holiday Pay Around July 4 What Employers Need to Know

Holiday pay rules can feel simple until a holiday lands near a weekend, payroll cutoff, PTO request, shift schedule, or overtime week. For 2026, Independence Day falls on Saturday, July 4, and most federal employees observe the holiday on Friday, July 3. That federal observance can influence business schedules, bank timing, vendor availability, and employee expectations, but it does not automatically create a private employer obligation to provide paid time off or premium pay.
